This year, some of the world's leading manufacturers have released battery powered rotary tattoo machines. The most famous wireless tattoo machines are the Sol Nova Unlimited from Cheyenne, the Spektra Flux from FK Irons and the Flite X1 from Inkjecta. Each of these innovative high-tech tattoo machines has its own special features. In this blog post we would like to introduce you to the Sol Nova Unlimited and explain especially the two operating modes Steady Mode and Responsive Mode. The Spektra Flux from FK Irons and the Flite X1 from Inkjecta will be presented in our blog later on.
MT Derm is a German company based in Berlin and sets the highest quality standards for the development and production of tattoo machines, needle cartridges, power supplies and accessories. MT Derm distributes all tattoo products under the premium brand Cheyenne. In the past fourteen years Cheyenne has made a name for itself internationally. Cheyenne has established itself as one of the worldwide market leaders through quality and constant product innovations.
The most significant innovation: The use of needle cartridges instead of conventional tattoo needles with the Cheyenne Hawk.
In 2006, Cheyenne launched the "Hawk", the first rotary tattoo machine from Cheyenne, and thus marked a change in the tattoo industry. At that time the good old coil machines dominated in the tattoo studios, which are of course still in use today. But the innovation of the Cheyenne Hawk was less the rotary tattoo machine itself. Because Tattoo Samy and Manfred Kohrs discovered the concept of the electrically driven tattoo machine already in the 70s.
In 2006 the innovation consisted rather in the Cheyenne needle cartridges. For the first time it was possible to use different needle configurations during a tattoo with only one tattoo machine. Previously, tattooists had to use a separate tattoo machine for each needle configuration. By the fact that tattoo artists only needed one tattoo machine for their work, they saved a lot of time and money.
Today, Rotary tattoo machines and needle cartridges have become indispensable and the coil machines and conventional tattoo needles play a minor role in tattoo studios worldwide.
14 years of quality and innovation
In the past 14 years Cheyenne has launched many products that have brought some innovations to the tattoo industry. It would be beyond the scope of this blog post to go into detail about every single product at this point. But the best proof of the very high quality of Cheyenne tattoo machines is that even older models are still very popular with professional tattoo artists. That's why you can still find the Cheyenne Spirit, the Cheyenne Thunder, the Hawk Pen, the Sol Luna, the Sol Terra, the Sol Nova and of course the Sol Nova Unlimited in our webshop.

The Cheyenne Sol Nova Unlimited - pure freedom when tattooing
With the Sol Nova Unlimited, Cheyenne has expanded the outstanding functions and features of the Sol Nova to include the Responsive Mode and a convenient battery solution. The functions of a complete power supply have been integrated into the wireless tattoo machine, which for the first time is operated by a single button. The speed of the Sol Nova Unlimited is adjusted quickly and intuitively by holding this button and tilting the machine. The operation of the Sol Nova Unlimited is therefore incredibly simple. The two graphics below illustrate the innovative operating concept. In addition, you can see from the graphics with which inclination you can continuously adjust the desired frequency.
The Sol Nova Unlimited runs at least 5 hours with a fully charged battery. The charging time of the battery is only 3 hours. With the second battery supplied, there is no limit to the continuous work.
The Steady Mode and the Responsive Mode for absolute freedom of style
With the Cheyenne Sol Nova Unlimited you can tattoo all tattoo styles without compromise. This is guaranteed by the optimal stroke of 3.5mm and the very wide frequency range from 25 to 140Hz. However, the Steady Mode and Responsive Mode have a significant influence on the running characteristics of your Cheyenne Sol Nova Unlimited. You can switch between the two operating modes simply by pressing a button.
The Steady Mode for strong lines and powerful color packing
In Steady Mode, the needle is driven practically unbraked and constantly with the same power. This makes Steady Mode particularly suitable for lines, areas, color packing and blackwork. Whenever you want to bring ink powerful, opaque and solid under the skin, Steady Mode is the right mode for you.
The Responsive Mode for fine shades and fineline tattoos
On the other hand, if you want to tattoo fine shades, smooth gradients or precise thin lines, Responsive Mode is the right choice for you. The innovative technology of the Sol Nova Unlimited recognizes the resistance of the skin to the needle and automatically regulates the hardness of the machine. The professional also speaks of give or punch. These terms are derived from the way coil tattoo machines work and can be translated as the hardness and dynamics in which the needle penetrates the skin.
Tip: You can also switch between operating modes during tattooing, regardless of style or technique. Because sometimes you get different results with the Steady Mode and the Responsive Mode due to different skin conditions.
The possibility of changing the operating modes with a simple push of a button provides you of all battery-powered tattoo machines only the Cheyenne Sol Nova Unlimited.
In the following video, Cheyenne product manager Richard Weiss and tattoo artist Hawk Chait explain the Steady Mode and Responsive Mode of the Sol Nova Unlimited.
