Unlike conventional cosmetics, permanent make-up (PMU) is not only applied superficially, but is permanently incorporated into the uppermost skin layer of the face, the so-called epidermis. This is a special type of tattooing, in which artistic eyelid lines, eyebrow or lip contours are created, which then remain for several years. What lasts so long - and on top of that can be seen daily in the middle of everyone's face - should definitely be done perfectly! Your customers rightly have high expectations. PMU is absolute precision work, every line and every dot on the edge of the eyelid has to fit with millimetre precision. The inner design and the material of the tip guarantee an excellent ink flow and a good, very high saturation, so that you rarely have to dive the needle into the tattoo ink. The medical-grade plastic housing ensures a literally smooth workflow by reducing friction between the needle and housing.

Unique patented vents on both sides of the tip housing create a decompressing vacuum that minimizes the risk of splatter due to diversion. At the same time, this ensures optimal needle flushing. This module design also prevents colors from mixing when you switch between different shades.

Interested in a bit of PMU history?

The work of PMU artists has not always been as easy and clean as with the Vertix Nano needle modules. Even the Japanese aborigines or the Vikings knew permanent cosmetics - but according to historical findings, they were applied rather messily and unhygienically with pigments made of finely ground charcoal and needles made of plant thorns or fish bones.

In Central and Northern Europe, tattooed eyelid lines were quite common among both women and men of the early Middle Ages. In Japan, on the other hand, people were particularly fond of blackening the lips, as they did not find a red mouth very attractive.

The boundaries between tattoo and PMU have always been fluid. Among the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori, for example, women's darkly tinted lips merge seamlessly with a traditional ornamental tattoo on the chin.

The first research-proven permanent make-ups of recent date were designed from the 1950s onwards by the German tattoo artist Horst Streckenbach, also known as "Tattoo Samy". He tattooed eyeliner and eyebrows, but also eye shadow and beauty marks, which were very trendy at the time, inspired by stars like Marilyn Monroe or Brigitte Bardot. In the 1970s, Tattoo Samy also turned to the medical field and was the first in the world to use the tattoo machine for nipple reconstruction, i.e. breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery.

In the 1990s, PMU art was still in its infancy. Perhaps you remember the rather unattractive bar eyebrows or the harsh dark red lip outlines that were widely encountered back then?

But now we live in the 21st century, and a lot has changed in terms of permanent make-up: ombrè eyebrows, stardust eyeliner, watercolor lips, subtle lash line thickening and many other techniques and tricks create the perfect illusion of natural beauty.
